The term used in the chronicle was the Ge'ez equivalent of the cubit (እመት), and I simply converted it to feet. Keep in mind also that it was erected somewhere in the rugged mountains, which may have influenced the final choice of height. But, for perspective, you can check out Framlingham Castle in England (12m tall) or Bojnice Castle in Slovakia (6m). At 9m, Zara Yaqob’s castle would be their middle height, and all are quite grand in my opinion.
